A Wisbech company, that publishes children’s tales in a range of Eastern European languages and English, is celebrating after adding new books to what they offer schools.
Norman Woods Publishing has expanded its range of dual-language books, designed to help youngsters from Eastern European families develop their vocabulary, in both English and their home language.
The new books were formally launched at a London conference of the National Association for Language Development In the Curriculum (NALDIC).
Lucy Mclintock, of Norman Woods said: “The books have bright, contemporary illustrations or photographs and simple text, and are designed to encourage children to speak and read their home language, so that they continue to develop their vocabulary, while learning new words and gaining confidence in speaking English.
“In the light of current uncertainties surrounding the details of Brexit, some Eastern European families may be apprehensive about their futures in the UK, and it is hoped that the availability of these books in schools and libraries will help them to feel more included and welcome here.”
The books are presented in a child-friendly A4 landscape format
Presented in Polish and English, My Family is a story that shows a family enjoying a wide range of activities together.
Also available in Polish/English is My Nursery Day, packed with colour photographs, and following Lena through a day at nursery school.
The Gingerbread Man is a lively re-telling of the traditional story, in Lithuanian/English.
