A TRADITION that is fast establishing itself in the Fens is the annual conker championship and organisers hope for record crowds at next Friday's event.
It will be the fifth year running that the competition has taken place and Wisbech Lions are busy preparing to host the event at the Oasis Community Centre.
Whether contestants have wised up on the traditional greeting -- oddly oddly onker my first conker -- on discovering their first conker of the season is not known, but tradition has it that good fortune, and successful battles will ensue if they do.
So if you're ready for it, and are over 18 and happy to pay the £5 entry fee, which includes a sausage supper, then pop along to the centre.
