THE Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard were celebrating tonight after collecting two major awards at this year's EDF East of England Media Awards.

At a prestigious ceremony in Norwich attended by approximately 200 print, radio and television journalists from across six counties reporter Maggie Gibson won the Print Journalist of the Year (weekly).

Two other Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard journalists were among the runners up in this category.

The Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard "Let's Make Fenland Safer" campaign won an award for the Community Campaign of the Year, beating off competition from newspapers and radio stations across East Anglia.

The Wisbech Standard was highly commended in the Front Page of the Year category.

Editor John Elworthy said: "I'm absolutely delighted. I am especially pleased for Maggie Gibson. She has got an amazing feel for the Fenland community and her award is thoroughly deserved."

Olympic gymnast Lewis Smith presented the winners with their awards at Dunstan Hall, Norwich today.
