FIVE Cambridgeshire County Councillors are being investigated for possible breaches of the members' code of conduct.

The council confirmed today that a complaint has been received alleging the five councillors - whose identities are being withheld- have breached the rules governing behaviour of elected representatives.

"In accordance with the council's procedures the complaint has been referred to the Standards Committee Assessment Sub-Committee," said a council spokesman.

This sub committee will "consider whether any further action is appropriate or a formal investigation is required".

All members of the county council have been made aware of the allegations but asked not to comment publicly on them or to discuss the allegations with journalists.
