A TAXI driver was attacked and robbed as he tried to drive away from his home in Stow Road shortly after 6am on Friday.

The man, who does not wish to be named, told police he noticed a man on the other side of the road. As he got into the taxi and placed his moneybag in the doorwell, he heard the man approaching over his gravel drive.

The man asked if the 45-yearold taxi driver could change a £5 note, which he did, but as he got back into the cab he was struck on the back of the head.

The robber fled with the moneybag, which contained a significant amount of cash, along Norwich Road towards the town centre. He is described as 6ft tall, 25-35 years old and wearing a green polo shirt and blue jeans.

Police want to speak to anyone in the Norwich Road/Stow Road area on Friday morning who saw a man matching that description or witnessed suspicious activity.
