A GLOBAL fresh food maufacturing company has reduced the number of redundancies by more than 200 at its prepared produce site.

Icelandic firm, Bakkavr, will now face 170 job cuts after completing a 90-day consultation process in response to tough trading conditions for the food specialists.

The original figure of 375 proposed redundancies was reduced in the three-month process which aimed to boost the business’ sustainability.

Workers facing the axe from the plant will benefit from enhanced redundancy packages while employees remaining at the site will not see any changes to their hourly rates and can enjoy improved overtime thresholds from those first proposed.

Financial Dynamics say they have communicated with trade union and staff representatives throughout the three month process and have reflected these views in the proposed measures.

The communications firm anticipate that all changes will be in place by 17 January 2011 and stress that changes are essential for securing 700 jobs at the Prepared Produce site.
