AN international company will be moving out of Wisbech after suffering around 25 break ins in the last four years.

Rolec Services Ltd has been burgled four times in the space of 10 days in the last fortnight and their resources manager Suzanne Smithee estimated that up to 6,000 worth of copper piping and tools were taken.

The Algores Way-based business, which specialises in hook-up units, service bollards and pedestals for boats and caravans, has been in Wisbech for 14 years and employs around 70 members of staff, most of which are expected to lose their jobs.

Mrs Smithee said: "Our managing director Kieron Alsop took the decision to move on last week after this latest spate of break-ins.

"We will be re-locating to a property we own in Boston, Lincolnshire. We are going through the planning stages so we won't be able to move until after Christmas but if we could go now we would.

"Staff will be given the opportunity to work for us in Boston but because of the distance I expect most of them will not do this and sadly lose their jobs. This decision has not been taken lightly.

"This sends out a very bad message to anyone wanting to set up a business in Wisbech.

"These thieves keep coming back and they have even left their torches on the site because they do not fear being caught.

"We feel so vulnerable because we are surrounded by open space and the thieves have a quick and easy get away."

No arrests have been made and several burglaries were not reported to police, who visited Rolec Services this week.

Mrs Smithee said neighbouring Algores Way businesses have also been targeted and on Wednesday last week, when Rolec Services hired a security guard after break-ins the previous two nights, The Welding Centre was hit.

A police spokesman said: "Rolec Services has recently suffered significant burglaries in a short period of time and officers are investigating all lines of enquiry.

"Any witnesses or people who know something about these offences should contact police.

"Rolec has been offered security advice in the past, and again on this occasion, but very often these burglaries have taken place at night, there is no CCTV directly covering the area, there have been no witnesses and limited or no forensic evidence minimising the lines of enquiry for detectives.

"On the odd occasion a break-in hasn't been reported, or has taken place during a two-week period which can make subsequent investigations much harder.
