A Wisbech St Mary plant breeding company is hoping to grow even further thanks to an investment in a new 15,000 cubic metre reservoir.

Volmary, at Delamore Nursery, has recently had a new water capture built which will provide 100 per cent of the company’s irrigation water.

The reservoir catches the rainfall from over 60,00 square metres of glasshouse, before the water is then sterilised and fertilised using electromagnetic plate conversion.

The project was part-funded with the help of the European agricultural find for agriculture and its lead contractor was Hortech systems of Holbeach.

Wayne Eady, managing director at Volmary, said: “Despite the scale of the project, the contractor alongside our own team have worked really well to complete the task successfully.

“In the current unpredictable horticultural climate, substantial investments are hard to justify but if you believe in the long term future of the industry and of our place in it, continued investment is critical to maintain business momentum.”
