THIS old and damaged bus shelter must remain, at least for the time being, now that parish councillors have scrapped plans for a replacement after police objected to the design.

Parson Drove Parish Council had hoped it had found the perfect shelter and had applied to Fenland District Council to erect it.

"The police liaison officer had reservations," said a parish council spokesman. "He felt it was too enclosed and could lead to anti social behaviour.

"We had to take on board those comments, as would Fenland Council, so rather than have the application refused we decided to withdraw it."

The parish council says ii is now going to have another look at the design of the shelter.

"We wanted it to protect people from the rain, but police consider we have gone too far enclosing the shelter," the spokesman added.

The proposed design for the replacement shelter at The Bank, would have included a hexagonal brick built building, with a tiled roof.
