STAFF at Wisbech brewery company Elgood and Sons have raised their glasses this week to toast their success in a national beer festival.

Elgood's has scooped a gold medal for its Cambridge bitter and a silver medal for its Black Dog mild at the Great British Beer Festival at London's Earls Court.

"This is a fantastic achievement for Elgood's and all the staff in gaining two awards at the GBBF," said the company's trade director Terry Stork.

"We are incredibly proud that our quality beers have been recognised in this way by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

"This year we've proved that the quality and passion that we have for our brands, and in particular these two unique products, are well founded by the attainment of these two prestigious awards.

"Elgood and Sons' heritage and the brewer's art of consistently producing a pint that can be relied upon means our customers can enjoy a quality drink that tastes and looks good.

"Cambridge bitter and Black Dog mild are both crafted from natural ingredients, using traditional methods, helping in the resurgence of real ale and wholesome drinking."

Both beers are available in Elgood's 42 pubs, which are spread throughout Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Lincolnshire, although most of them are in the Fenland area.

Over the years the company has won many awards for its beers, all brewed at the 200-year-old North Brink brewery, which is now run by Belinda Sutton, who has followed in the family tradition by becoming the fifth generation of the Elgood family to take the helm.
