PECKOVER House in Wisbech is to hold an evening bat walk next Wednesday for the first time, giving people the chance to peek inside the world of these intriguing mammals and their habitats.

Dr Stuart Warrington, the National Trust's Nature Conservation Advisor for the East of England and an avid bat admirer, will lead the walk around the buildings and gardens of Peckover looking for different species of bats and explaining their habitats, which so often overlap with ours!

Dr Warrington said: "Bats are such special animals and continue to inspire and intrigue people.

"They're considered a bit mysterious and we don't often get to see them very closely, so a bat walk like this is a great chance to take a proper look at these lovely creatures and learn about some of their habits and habitats.

"People might not expect bats to be found in a townhouse like Peckover, but in reality bats are often much closer than you think - they might even be living in your roof! I'm delighted to be able to lead this first bat walk at Peckover and look forward to welcoming people to join me in the search."

People will be able to use bat detectors to hear the ultrasonic sounds made by bats and look for other signs of life around the property as well as learning about what bats need to thrive and how we can help or hinder them in our own homes.

The bat walk takes place on Wednesday 23 September at 6.30pm. Adults 10 and children 5, including refreshments.
