THE Salvation Army Citadel at Wisbech was packed to capacity for Sunday's civic carol service.

It was standing room only as the mayor and mayoress joined the crowds to hear the Junior Magdalene House choir, comprising 60 children, part of the Grammar School choir, and King's Lynn Salvation Army band.

The service was led by Major Aubrey Draycott.

The congregation helped raise £700 for the Milton Children's Hospice, a charity close to the heart of the Salvation Army and one which has recently lost its Government funding. "It was wonderful to see the children singing and raising money for other childen," said the Army's Janet Cordell. "We would like to repeat the concert next year, hopefully at a bigger venue.
