THE number of assaults on police officers in Cambridgeshire looks set to decrease in 2009 compared to the last three years.
Cambridgeshire Police said that from January 1 to December 6 this year there were 279 reported assaults on police officers.
That compares to 321 reported attacks in 2008, 316 reported assaults in 2007 and 303 incidents in 2006.
This year's running total was released by police after a request under the Freedom of Information Act, dated December 7.
Police refused to give a full breakdown of assaults over the last three years as requested, because the information was already "reasonably accessible".
The details dating back to 2006 were released after a Freedom of Information request in January this year and, as a result, still available to view on the force website.
