POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two arson attacks on the same house in Wisbech.

The first incident caused only minor damage to the property in Sandbank, on Sunday at around 4.15am.

A curtain was set alight through a side window but it was extinguished before the fire service arrived.

A woman and her four children were at home at the time.

The second incident took place today at around 1.45am.

The fire service was called to extinguish the blaze, which is believed to have been started through the front letter box.

No one was in the property, as the family are now staying with relatives.

Det Sgt Matt Swash said: "We are treating these incidents very seriously and it was lucky that the first fire was caught before it spread.

"It has also caused concern for neighbours.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the incident taking place, or any suspicious behaviour in the area."

Anyone with information should contact DS Swash at Wisbech Police Station on 0345 456 456 4, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
