YOUNGSTERS from Wisbech and March were among 85 army cadets treated to an exciting Christmas training camp organised by the Army Cadet Force at Waterbeach.

Senior cadets took part in local training with a military theme, while 47 of the junior cadets enjoyed a day out at the Imperial War Museum at nearby Duxford. The most popular attraction there was the world war two flight simulator - with several taking up to three turns each!

Cadets Rebecca Burch,12, and Lauren Stewart ,12, both from Wisbech joined army cadets just three months ago and had a great time.

"I'm really glad I joined" Rebecca said, "You can do so much with your friends and not get bored like other kids"

On the military training area Cadet Courtney Stribley,13, from March, had her face covered in camouflage cream.

" It's just great getting mucky and learning how to get on with people - everyone should try it", he said.

In the evening the cadets were provided with a full Christmas meal served by their adult instructors and afterwards the area Commander Major Tom Denton announced several awards and promotions.

Rebecca Hare-Mitcham ,15, from Wisbech won promotion to Lance Corporal and the Young Achiever of the Year Award for her swimming skills, and Sergeant Joanne Burrell ,17, from Whittlesey won best Senior Cadet.

Also promoted to Lance Corporal were James Humphries ,14, from Wisbech, and Jon Goode, 16, and Robert Evans ,15, both from Fletton.

Best Cadet at summer annual camp 2006 was Chantelle Cox ,15, from Fletton. Adult Instructor Maria Beadle (Wisbech) was promoted to Colour Sergeant.
