Applicant asks Fenland planners for confirmation Wisbech house in multiple occupation conversion was “lawful”

An application has been submitted for retrospective planning permission for a Wisbech house in multiple occupation.

Ron Read, of Romsey Road, Benfleet, wants Fenland District Council planners to approve a rear extension which was carried out to a home on Norwich Road before he bought it in 2010.

Since more than four years have passed since the house was converted into an house in multiple occupation, Mr Read believes he is entitled to formal confirmation that all works carried out to the property were “lawful”.

Houses in multiple occupation have at least three tenants, forming more than one household. Toilet, bathroom and kitchen facilities are shared with other tenants.

The application says: “In 2010 the applicant purchased the property. The rear extension had already been completed as shown on the 2010 sales particulars attached with this application.

“The conversion to a house of multiple occupancy also exceeds the necessary four years, deeming it lawful through time.

“Our client would like formal confirmation that all works undertaken to the property are lawful.”
