THOUSANDS of visitors flocked to Walpole St Andrew to enjoy the sixth annual Walpole Steam and Country Fair.

The bumper crowd of more than 6,000 had a great time over the weekend looking at the full size and miniature steam engines which had travelled from a wide area including Derbyshire. There was also a variety of vintage and veteran cars, motorcycles and tractors on display.

Organisers say they are hoping to double the £1,700 raised last year for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Mark Davey said: "It went very, very well and we had an exceptional year. It has taken a few years to get established but people know about us now."

He said special thanks must go to Tim Rudd whose land is used to stage the rally.

There were displays on both days by the Downham Majorettes and on Sunday March 2000 brass band provided some foot-tapping music. A fun fair and clown proved a popular attraction for the youngsters.
