Wisbech's mayor, Councillor David Oliver, and fellow town councillors joined staff at the town's Asda supermarket on Friday to raise money for two charities.

The town council sold roses at £1 each to customers after about 600 were donated by Asda's supplier, Intergreen, of Bicker, near Boston.

The sales raised £518.32 for the mayor's charity fund.

Meanwhile, Asda staff took it in turns to step on an exercise machine at the store's entrance for the Tickled Pink campaign, run in partnership between Asda and Breast Cancer Care.

Half-hour stints by staff and managers from 10am to 6pm, with donations from people entering the store, saw them raise £250 for the charity.
