An unsung hero of the Ferry Project in Wisbech has been presented with a community spirit award.
Trevor Kettering has been volunteering for the homelessness charity for over two years.
Each week he generously offers his time to support the maintenance of the project, helping with events and day to day tasks, and was given the award to recognise his regular volunteering at a number of community events around Wisbech.
Trevor said: “ I had no idea I was nominated for an award! It wasn’t until I saw a friend from the council who asked if I was attending the awards evening. I feel proud and it made my daughter proud”.
After his hard work volunteering with the Ferry Project, Trevor was offered a job with them on his birthday. Trevor continues to volunteer at the charity on a regular basis.
Keith Smith, Ferry Project Director, said: “Trevor is an asset to the Ferry Project. He and all the volunteers help us support some of the most vulnerable people in Fenland.
“In 2017 we supported 239 homeless people. Without volunteers, like Trevor, we would not be able to help so many.“
