THE �70,000 a year corporate director of Fenland District Council has quit and is to be allowed to work out his notice working from home.

The council announced today that Perry Holmes, corporate director and monitoring officer, is returning to his home in Nottingham.

Councillors were told of the decision in an email from Sandra Claxton, deputy chief executive, who will assume the monitoring officer role temporarily.

A council spokesman said: "It's not our normal practice to publicise staff comings and goings but we can confirm that Perry Holmes, Corporate Director and Monitoring Officer, has made the difficult decision to leave us at FDC in order to work closer to his family home."

Mr Holmes joined the authority in 2006 as director of central services with responsibility for legal and democratic services and community safety.

Ms Claxton said that Mr Holmes had played a pivotal role in shaping Fenland's future. She said he be continue to work on a number of projects for the council during his notice period.
