A supermarket in the Fens which was forced to close after a roof collapse has issued an update on its reopening.
Emergency services rushed to Iceland on the High Street, in March, at just before 3pm on Tuesday (July 28).
An eyewitness who was in the store at the time of the roof's collapse recalled hearing a "loud crash" before staff evacuated shoppers.
Others reported hearing a noise which sounded like "an explosion" while a waiter at a nearby restaurant said Iceland staff sounded "afraid".
The store has remained closed for "colleague and customer safety" ever since the collapse, with home delivery services moved to Iceland in Wisbech.
However, in an update on Monday (September 7) the retailer confirmed it expects the store to reopen later this year.
A spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we expect our High Street store in March to reopen later this year.
"Our priority remains ensuring all safety and hygiene requirements are fully met before welcoming customers back, and we look forward to serving our shoppers again once all necessary work has been completed."
It has since been revealed concerns about the safety of the supermarket building were raised more than two months before its roof collapsed.
CNC Building Control carried out a site visit before returning on July 10 where "deterioration was noted".
Fenland District Council insisted correct procedure was followed, adding that the owner of the building was informed of the findings.
They said: "Steps were being taken to pursue a follow-up internal inspection and assessment. No immediate danger was noted.
"It’s deeply regrettable that the collapse was not foreseeable from the inspections that had taken place.
"The building owner is responsible for ensuring the building is safe and is now responsible for covering all associated costs of the collapse and remedial works."
