A popular gym and studio which was forced to temporarily close amid heavy rain is set to reopen.

George Campbell Leisure Centre, in March, announced it had been forced to shut the facilities on Thursday (August 27) due to a roof leak.

However, operator Freedom Leisure revealed the gym and studio will reopen by 6pm this evening following the "swift action" of staff and Fenland District Council.

A spokesperson said: "There may be certain areas of the gym that will remain inaccessible however.

"Also, just to reassure customers, the pool has been unaffected so swimming has been available all day.

"We'd like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused but customer and colleague safety remains paramount.

"We'd like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding while we rectified the issue with our approved contractors."
