This past month has seen plenty of excitement as new businesses opened across Cambridgeshire, but also lots of sadness as beloved stores are set to close.
Here are five businesses that announced they are opening or closing in August.
1. Greggs, Ely
The national bakery chain famed for its on-the-go savoury products has opened its second store in Ely.
The shop, which opened on August 21, will stock freshly prepared favourites, including the bakery's iconic sausage role and steak bake.
Located at the former HSBC unit on Butter Market, the store opened with a modern look and has created 12 new jobs.
2. The Grafton Ping Pong Parlour, Cambridge
The popular ping pong venue reopened at the Grafton Centre on August 7 nearly a year after it closed to make way for ongoing redevelopment works.
The new site will host six free-to-use tables in the former NHS Vaccination Centre in the shopping centre’s eastern end.
The space is open from 9am to 5pm seven days a week until November 1, spanning the summer holidays and October half-term.
3. The Highwayman Cookhouse and Pub, St Neots
One of a number of restaurants to close as part of a major overhaul by Premier Inn owner Whitbread, The Highwayman will shut its doors on September 3.
The decision was revealed in April as Whitbread announced plans to cut around 3,800 jobs in the UK and Ireland.
Brewers Fayre, Beefeater, Bar + Block, Table Table and Cookhouse and Pub restaurants are all set to close in September.
Based in Eaton Socon, St Neots, the venue is now listed on Rightmove with a guide price of £450,000.
4. Ink & Ember, Peterborough
The bookshop and cafe opened its doors at the Queensgate Centre on August 22 after much anticipation.
Known as 'The Burrow', the opening comes 18 months after the launch of the company's first location in Stamford.
5. The Granary Beefeater, Peterborough
One a number of restaurants to close as part of a major overhaul by Premier Inn owner Whitbread, The Granary Beefeater is set to shut next month.
The decision was revealed in April as Whitbread announced plans to cut around 3,800 jobs in the UK and Ireland.
Based Orton Meadows in Ham Lane the venue will close on September 10.
