A popular zoo in Cambridgeshire has announced the arrival of one of the world's rarest and most threatened big cats.
Bulan, a male Malayan tiger, recently joined Hamerton Zoo Park, in Sawtry, from Zoo Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic.
His arrival marks an important step in the conservation of the species with fewer than 120 believed to remain in the wild.
Bulan was born at Prague Zoo and later moved to Zoo Úst in 2019 and now joins Hamerton's female Malayan tiger, Sahaja.
A spokesperson said the arrival represents an "important opportunity" for the future of the Malayan tiger population.
The zoo hopes that in time Bulan and Sahaja will form a "compatible pairing" and "contribute offspring to the long-term conservation" of the sub-species.
"Introducing two tigers is a process that requires patience and careful management," the zoo said.
"Over the coming months, our experience carnivore team will monitor both animals closely as they become familiar with one another.
"Any future breeding recommendations will be guided by the welfare of both tigers."
