A nursery which operates fishing lakes hopes to add holiday cabins to provide an "off-grid" campsite.

Three Lakes Nursery has applied to install six converted shipping containers near its coarse fishing ponds off Meadowgate Lane at Emneth, near Wisbech.

It says they would be clad in timber, be fitted with solar panels and include a bedroom, cooking and bathroom facilities, along with a composting toilet.

A planning statement adds the accommodation would help the nursery, which specialises in growing oriental greens to supply Chinese restaurants in the Midlands, to diversify.

It says the "modest" tourist facility would help bring more visitors to the area, as growing numbers seek out quieter rural retreats, adding the site is "ideal" for the purpose.

Bird watchers and walkers would be expected to use the cabins.

A decision from West Norfolk Council is expected later this year.
