A Cambs puppy breeding facility has responded after a number of people gathered to protest outside its grounds today.
It is understood the demonstration is part of Camp Beagle, the UK's longest-running permanent animal rights protest camp.
The group has maintained a continuous presence outside the gates of MBR Acres in Wyton, near Huntingdon, since the summer of 2021.
Camp Beagle demands for the facility to close and end the use of beagles for research purposes.
A Facebook post by the group this morning labelled MBR Acres as "puppy killers" and claimed there more than "1,000 beagles locked inside" the facility.
MBR Acres refuted these claims and explained why it conducts it's research.
A spokesperson for MBR Acres told the paper: "MBR are a breeder of healthy animals. We supply these directly to the UK’s life sciences sector, which carries out biomedical research to discover new medicines for people and pets.
"Claims that animal research is no longer necessary overlook critical scientific and regulatory realities. The reality is that no alternatives can yet fully replicate the complexity of humans and animals.
"Every new medicine will have at some point been tested in animals to evaluate safety. International and UK regulatory authorities require this to meet high safety standards for both humans and pets.
"Facilities like ours form part of the UK’s key national infrastructure, a designation recently expanded by the UK Government.
"We are part of a critical supply chain that ensures the UK can respond robustly to future public health and pandemic threats.
"Our operations are entirely legal and carried out under strict UK Home Office regulatory oversight. We remain committed to meeting all required welfare and operational standards.
"While we respect the right to peaceful protest, we will not tolerate any form of intimidation, harassment, or unlawful behaviour. The safety and security of our staff and the animals in our care is our top priority. "
Before today, the last major demonstration outside MBR Acres occurred in April 2025.
Multiple famous faces have backed the Camp Beagle cause over the years, including television presenter and journalist Wendy Turner-Webster and actress Carol Royle.
