March go-kart track will go from tarmac to tranquility

The vision is to create a peaceful, restorative space that supports both tourism and the local community.

Alongside luxury accommodation, the wellness centre will include facilities such as a sauna, steam room and plunge pool, along with treatment rooms and tranquil relaxation spaces, and will also be open for local residents to enjoy.

Debbie Diablo-Smith, who is behind the scheme, said a key part of the project is a strong commitment to biodiversity, with the transformation of hardstanding into natural habitats, planting and wildlife areas.

The aim is to bring nature back to the site and create a space that supports both the environment and wellbeing.

She said the idea for the retreat was inspired by the natural beauty of the Fenland landscape, particularly the incredible sunrises and sunsets that can be experienced across the area — something the project aims to celebrate and share with others.

With growing awareness of the benefits of nature on health and wellbeing, the retreat will provide a calm and welcoming place where people can relax, recharge and reconnect.

Plans also include wellness days, workshops and experiences designed to support both physical and mental well-being.

Debbie added that while the development will attract visitors to the area, it is equally focused on offering something meaningful for local people — creating a safe and nurturing environment that is currently lacking locally.

"We’re also very grateful for the professional and proactive approach taken by Fenland District Council’s planning team throughout the process," she said.

“The vision is to turn what was once a kart track into a peaceful retreat — a real transformation from tarmac to tranquillity.”

There are also some unique elements planned for the retreat, which will be revealed as the project develops.

Debbie added: "We will be revealing the name and branding shortly as the project develops."

And she concluded: "I am extremely excited and passionate about this new venture."
