A Fenland museum is hoping the sale of Christmas decorations will add a bit of sparkle and shine to its campaign to secure its financial future.
The unique Christmas tree decorations have been donated by talented local artists and will go on sale at the Wisbech and Fenland Museum from next weekend.
The Christmas selling exhibition will run during museum opening hours from Saturday, 6 to Saturday, December 13, and will also be open throughout the Wisbech Christmas Fayre on Sunday, December 14 as part of the museum's programme of fayre activities.
Craftspeople, many of whom have held successful workshops for the community at the 178-year-old purpose-built museum, answered an appeal to make and donate high-quality handmade tree decorations.
The decorations - many beautiful or witty enough to make a seasonal gift – will be on display at a fixed price of £7 each. All proceeds will go to support the museum staying open.
Exhibition organiser Louise Haselgrove said: “The museum is keen to promote the variety and excellence of handmade work produced in the Fens and help to secure its own future at the same time.
“There was a fantastic response to our Secret Little Art Show in 2023, which raised more than £2,000 thanks to the generosity of amateur and professional artists with a love for our museum.
“This time, we have on display amazing Christmas tree decorations donated by their makers. All proceeds will go towards keeping the museum open into the future.”

Crafty Little Christmas is open from Saturday, December 6, and is open during normal museum opening times from then onwards (Wednesday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm), and it will also be open on Sunday, December 14, for the Wisbech Christmas Fayre. For further information, see the museum website.
The museum desperately requires the help of donations from the Wisbech and Fenland community to ensure it survives.
