Round House at Doddington up for auction for £185,000

The Round House in Doddington is thought to date back to pre-1660 – that’s the time of the restoration, when the son of executed King Charles I was installed on the throne following the restoration of the monarchy.

It is one of the district's most distinct and oldest buildings, and has been on the market since 2023, and despite being under offer once, has failed to sell.

However, it now has a reduced price tag of £185,000 - a drop of more than £100,000 since it was first marketed by Next Level Property.

The round shape of the property makes the inside rooms a little quirky. (Image: Next Level Property) It is believed that the thatched property, which is now being sold through modern auction, was built by Dutchmen brought over to help drain the Fens.

It is also believed to have been a toll-house, and at one point it was owned by the church.

The property went into private hands in 1935, and in 1949 it was modernised and extended.

Full of character, the house is a Grade II listed building, and is in need of a bit of TLC.

The current owner has collected memorabilia, newspaper cuttings, and old photos of the building; all of which will be passed to the next owner.

The property boasts mullioned Gothic arched windows, and a feature fireplace is among other features.

Steve Bowles of Next Level Property said the Round House is a "one-of-a-kind" property in Fenland, and similar properties are equally rare nationally.

"The auction went live last week, and we are now taking bids. The auction will close when we have a bid that meets the reserve price."
