Towering trees are set to be felled over fears they could fall on a home.

Fenland council has agreed for eight silver birches to be taken down in the rear garden of a property on Brampton Close, in Wisbech.

A tree surgeon's report said some the specimens, which are up to 60ft tall, are in poor condition and lean towards the house.

It adds: "The potential for failure and proximity is a cause of worry to the applicants because of height, heavy to moderate lean and the prevailing wind."

A council planning report said the trees are "protected, prominent specimens and provide amenity value".

It said a minimum of five replacement trees will be required, species and location to be determined but should be selected to offer "increased biodiversity".
