Companies across Cambridgeshire have generously donated over 1,300 Easter eggs to charities and organisations supporting families in the county.

This is the third year Kameo Recruitment and the Cambridge Fruit Company have co-ordinated the initiative.

Their aim was to beat last year’s 598 figure and collect 1,000 eggs – and their grand total ended up at 1,322.

Forty-six companies across the county contributed towards their effort.

The eggs have now been donated to six organisations: The Red Hen Project, The Meadows Children & Family Wing, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), Cambridge Women’s Aid, Addenbrooke’s Hospital – Paediatric Oncology and Little Miracles.

In a joint statement, both said: “It has been a busy few weeks for our teams, who have all played their part and we have been overwhelmed with the response from local businesses this year.

“We set a target of 1,000, which we thought would be a struggle in the current economic climate, so reaching 1,322 has been amazing.

“We appreciate everyone who has donated and have made sure that all of the eggs have been safely delivered and are ready to make lots of children smile this Easter.”

He said: “Siblings days offer siblings of children with life-threatened conditions the opportunity to have fun and enjoy days out with children in similar circumstances as themselves.

“The Easter eggs will be a lovely addition to these events and we are so pleased the children will be able to go home at the end of the day with an egg.”
