Whilst completing five months of work experience at local structural steelwork company SDM Fabrication LTD, Harvey Davies, from March, jumped at the chance to build, price and produce the fifth memento for the Wisbech to Upwell Tramway.

“When my employer (Richard Melton, managing director of SDM) mentioned the Tramway project, it grabbed my attention straight away," he said.

“I realised it was a fantastic opportunity to get involved in an important and interesting local amenity before I finished my work experience and set off on my travels ahead of going to university,” said Harvey.

“From the drawings, the design was finalised and we set a date - December 8 - to produce the frame which would support the bespoke Memento artwork – complete with information, photographs and images of the area.”

Harvey was briefed on the requirements for the frame of the fifth memento by local historian, Bill Smith, who has been driving forward the Wisbech to Upwell Tramway project for many years.

Bill also arranged for Welle Film Productions to attend the build and capture the work of Harvey and the SDM team.

“I was delighted when SDM and Harvey agreed to assist in such a monumental way “ said Bill“ This whole project has only been achieved because of the wonderful generosity and support of local businesses, charities and volunteers who are willing to make donations and give up their spare time.

“Many people who remember the tram feel it would be a travesty if the Tramway was forgotten and disappeared without a trace”.

The fifth memento has been installed at a site adjacent to the B&Q store, Elm High Road near Wisbech, just north of the former Elm Bridge Depot.
