A group of ballet enthusiasts from the Wisbech area flocked to the new headquarters of the Royal Academy of Dance in London on Sunday October 1.

It proved to be a great opportunity for the local Silver Swans who attended on the day and also contributed a video performance for the celebration.

Silver Swans licensee Barbara Wraith said: “It was a privilege to be part of such a great event.

“During the day we were able to take part in workshops and classes lead by Royal Ballet teachers, and former Royal Ballet soloist, Joshua Tuifua.

“And, of course, join and socialise with groups not only from the UK, but around the globe.”

As a grand finale, over 240 dancers took part in a show, introduced by current strictly star and ambassador for Silver Swans, Angela Rippon, who offered words of support and encouragement for those taking part.

Barbara added: “We were thrilled that our video was shown around the world and it was great to have Angela Rippon with us.

“She clearly is an icon of fitness and health and, not only that, but she is also right in the middle of preparation for the current Strictly series.

“Whilst I would not encourage everyone to suddenly attempt those amazing high kicks, we do need to be very aware that come 2030 one in six of us will be over 60.

“What that says to me is we need to keep moving. Ballet and dance of all kinds fit the bill perfectly, a magical and rewarding way to stay fit and healthy in body and mind”

Silver Swans classes are designed by the RAD and are targeted at older learners and returners to ballet.
