Hickathrift House in Marshland St James has opened its doors to the gentlemen of the community for an afternoon of crosswords, dominoes and discussions, on the second Sunday of every month.

The event will take place between 2.30pm - 4pm and guests will be able to enjoy cream cakes prepared by the home’s head chef and will meet the team and men at the home over a refreshing drink.

The first Gentlemen’s Club at Hickathrift House was on July 9 and residents and locals spent the time learning about the history of gentlemen’s clubs, enjoyed taking part in quizzes as well as discussing various sports results and playing dominoes.

Barrie, resident ambassador and attendee of the club said: “It was just great learning about each other over a drink. It was like being at the pub with your mates."

Paula Colman, general manager at Hickathrift House, added: “We’re always excited about welcoming new visitors and existing friends of the home to our community events.

"Our Gentlemen's Club helps local men to meet new people in a welcoming, dementia-friendly location."

The next Gentlemen’s Club at Hickathrift House is on August 13 at 2.30pm. More information can be found on the Hickathrift House website and Facebook page.
