Plans for four new homes in a village near Wisbech have been turned down.

Developers named in planning papers as Mr and Mrs Clarke applied for outline planning permission to build on land off Elm High Road in Emneth.

But planning officers have rejected the bid.

A design and access statement said the properties would be built along the road and use the existing access to the adjacent Clarkes Mowers business.

It said the site was located within the settlement of Emneth and surrounded by existing housing.

"The proposal is for residential development within a residential location," it added.

"The proposed use of the site is therefore acceptable in form and character terms."

But Emneth Parish Council objected, describing the proposals as "over-development of the site".

It added the Wisbech Canal once ran through the site and a site investigation should be carried out to check for contamination before any development is allowed on it.
