Two shoplifters have been jailed for stealing designer gift sets from Boots in Wisbech.

Tanya Momot, 30, and Scott Mcspadden, 39, were captured on CCTV entering the store, in the Horsefair Shopping Centre, on February 13 at about 11am.

They went straight to the gift sets aisle and helped themselves to three Ted Baker sets and one Soap and Glory set.

Within a minute, the pair walked out of the town centre store with the goods which were worth a total of £52.50.

The suspects, both of Lynn Road, Wisbech, were identified by police and arrested on March 31.

Momot was already known to officers and is currently subject to a two-year criminal behaviour order (CBO) from June last year.

The CBO prohibits her from entering Horsefair Shopping Centre and all shops in the vicinity.

Momot’s arrest also activated a suspended sentence handed to her on January 21 for six counts of theft from a shop and breach of a CBO.

Momot pleaded guilty to breaching a CBO, breaching a suspended sentence and theft from a shop.

Mcspadden pleaded guilty to theft from a shop.

Both appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Monday (April 3)

Momot was sentenced to 28 weeks in prison and Mcspadden eight weeks in prison.

PC Jake Smith said: “Shoplifting can have a huge impact on both businesses and those who work for them. It often comes together with other crimes including criminal damage and violence.

“Momot and Mcspadden showed a complete disregard for the law and will now spend time in prison where they will hopefully reflect on their actions.”
