A man who has been linked to two murders a decade apart in the same town can today be named as Mark Coleman.

The 45-year-old died in his prison cell in January, two weeks after he was arrested in connection with the death of Eliza Bibby, 47, whose body was found in her Wisbech bungalow.

Mr Coleman had been bailed while investigations into the murder continued, but remanded in custody in connection with "unrelated allegations" concerning a commercial burglary.

His identity emerged at an inquest into his death which opened at Peterborough Town Hall on Thursday.

Area coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Simon Milburn said Mr Coleman, of no fixed abode, was found unresponsive in a cell at Peterborough Prison on January 25.

He added an ambulance was called at 3.17pm and Mr Coleman was pronounced dead by paramedics.

Mr Milburn said the cause of death was unascertained, pending the results of histology and toxicology tests before adjourning the inquest.

Mr Coleman had been arrested on January 12, two days after the body of Ms Bibby was found at her Beechwood Road home.

Mr Coleman has also been linked with the murder of Una Crown, an 86-year-old widow who was stabbed to death and set on fire in her bungalow in Magazine Lane, Wisbech, in January 2013.

According to reports, he was previously questioned by police in connection with Mrs Crown's murder.

Officers have declined to comment on the links, as investigations into both murders are ongoing.

There are striking similarities to the two killings.

Both victims were vulnerable women, who lived alone in bungalows and died after being stabbed in the neck.

The initial investigation into Mrs Crown's murder was marred by police failings.

A 42-year-old woman from Wisbech was also arrested and bailed on suspicion of Ms Bibby's murder. She was remanded in custody in connection with unrelated allegations.
