Hickathrift House Care Home in Marshland St James hosted its first community charity breakfast on February 12 to raise awareness and funds for the Stroke Association.
Described as a “hugely successful event”, the breakfast included a full English, porridge or cereal as well as an assortment of teas and coffees for anyone who wanted to attend and show their support.
Staff at the care home went the extra mile by showing off their favourite PJ’s, and the community who attended chatted with residents and shared stories of their favourite meals, life stories and local history.
One local boy called Lennox, aged one and a half, had his first English breakfast during the community charity breakfast morning.
His mum, Charley, said: “Lennox couldn’t have been happier with his first English breakfast. He ate the whole thing as it was so tasty.”
Brian and Sally, from a local neighbouring village, said: “We love to come and support local events like this, especially when it’s for such a good cause.
“We’ve had a great time at Hickathrift House and felt so welcome. We’re looking forward to joining in more events.”
The Stroke Association was chosen in support of a former colleague who had a life-changing stroke shortly after retiring.
In total, the morning raised a fantastic £79 and so far in February the home has raised a subtotal of £102.
General Manager of Hickathrift House, Paula Colman, said: “We are thrilled to host community events at Hickathrift House care home and regularly arrange a local gentlemen’s club, community craft club, as well as our breakfast mornings.
“Our next community charity breakfast morning is on April 15 from 8am until 9:30am for the Alzheimer’s Society, and we hope you’ll be able to join us.”
