The temperature outside may have been below freezing, but that didn’t stop people visiting the annual Wisbech Christmas Fayre.

The atmosphere was particularly festive with choirs singing, children visiting Santa and stalls offering hot food and drinks to keep everyone merry.

It has been estimated around 2,000 people braved the weather to enjoy the event, which took place yesterday (Sunday).

Wisbech Mayor Susan Wallwork said: “It was so cold, but the town felt very Christmassy and everyone was so happy to be there.

“Everyone was having so much fun – and the hot chocolate stall must’ve had a roaring trade.

“I treated myself to a shot of Bailey’s in mine and as someone who doesn’t usually drink alcohol, it made me giddy.

“The choirs sang beautifully, I played the Rotary Club’s human fruit machine (their enthusiasm during the spins was incredible...) and saw the amazing Santa at Wisbech Lions Club.

“The queue for families to have their photographs taken from Victorian times was so long – and that was clearly a popular activity. That pesky Grinch though was also hanging around!”

Wisbech Standard:

Indoor and outdoor activities were held throughout the day across the town centre.

She added: “It was amazing once again to see the entire town come together and I’d like to thank everyone who helped organise the event and took part, because it brought us all so much joy.”

“This is why the people of Wisbech are incredible.

“When an event is put on, everyone throws themselves in 100 per cent, gets involved and makes the most of it.

“The shops were open, activities were set up by all the key local organisations and the entertainment throughout the day was brilliant.

“My friends, who are very honest people, said it was the best Christmas event they had been to in the area. That’s something we should all be very proud of.”
