Plans to build a development of ‘affordable homes’ in Wisbech have been published.

The plans propose building 46 homes on land off Barton Road, backing onto Magazine Lane.

An application, submitted by Ashwood Homes, is asking Fenland District Council for permission to build the development.

The mix of one to four-bedroom homes are planned to be made available as ‘affordable housing’, with 28 designated for affordable rent, and 18 planned as shared ownership.

The application states the land has been unused for a few years after the garden nursery there had shut down.

Another application for a care home on the site has also been made.

Cars and other vehicles will only be able to access the proposed development from Barton Road, but a footpath access to Magazine Lane is included in the plans.

In planning documents submitted as part of the planning application, it said the development was a “high quality scheme”, which would create an “attractive” place to live.
