Residents at a Wisbech care home are selling Christmas decorations they've made - and the money will go towards their fish and chips fund.

Crocheters at Lyncroft Care Home, in Clarkson Avenue, have been busy creating the quirky gonk-themed tree decorations.

They can be purchased for £2 from the home’s reception desk.

Wisbech Standard:

Mel Cushen, Customer Relations Manager at Lyncroft, said: “We organise all kinds of activities for the residents and we’ve recently been making Christmas decorations with them.

“One day, a resident was talking about how much they enjoyed a proper fish and chips supper.

“Even though we have a chef here who cooks excellent fish and chips, there’s something really special about a proper fish and chips supper from a proper fish and chip shop, isn’t there?

“And because the crocheted gonks are particularly good, it was decided to try and sell these for the residents’ fish and chips fund.

“Around 30 of these Christmas tree decorations have been sold already, so the residents are well on track towards their fish and chips. It has also been so much fun.”

Lyncroft is already getting into the Christmas spirit with much of the home decked out in decorations crafted by residents.

The home’s wellbeing team organises various activities throughout the year.

Any money raised is collected for a ‘residents comfort fund’ and goes towards treats such as trips out or live entertainment at the home.

They recently hosted breakfast every morning for a week for members of the blue light services in Wisbech to say ‘thank you’ for continuing to support them.

Mel added: “Activities in all their forms are so important for our residents’ wellbeing.

“Selling the Christmas decorations may seem like a small idea, but it really boosts morale, keeps us busy and gives everyone a reason to smile.

"And that’s a wonderful thing to see.”
