HARD up thief Daniel Rowlett went out to steal from a March store because he had bills to pay and needed cash for food.
“Some bills got on top of him, he intended to pay the bills and wanted to sell the items he stole to get food,” Fenland magistrates were told by solicitor Roger Glazebrook.
“He is too depressed to work, and is awaiting an appointment with the mental health team.”
Rowlett, 27, of Seafield Road, Leverington, admitted stealing a �19.99 set of hex keys from Halfords in March on June 8. He also admitted being in breach of a conditional discharge imposed on him for shoplifting last year.
The store manager had watched Rowlett on CCTV, said prosecutor Andrea Fawcett; he was seen picking up the keys, but they were not in his hand on later footage. Rowlett drive away from the store, and the registration number of his car was noted.
Sentencing was adjourned until August 3 for the probation service to prepare a report.
