AN historic building in Wisbech has been extensively renovated, thanks to a big grant from the Fenland Renaissance programme.
12 Nene Quay, pictured, received �25,000 to help pay for repairs to the roof and parapet, relaying roof slates and pantiles, repointing and repainting the frontage. The Grade II listed building, which dates from the early 18th century, was originally the Albion Inn. It was refaced in the 19th century with shop alterations.
It is the first scheme to be completed under the “historic buildings” element of the programme, which focuses on buildings that are listed for their architectural or historic interest. Three other buildings have also received assistance, with a total grant allocation of �88,000.
That part of the Renaissance programme has now been put on hold following reductions recently made by central government.
