I DISCOVERED who does the job in March after watching Councillor Bernard Keane lower the Union Jack from outside the town hall following the funeral of Councillor John West.

The council wanted someone to undertake the role and into the breach stepped Cllr Keane, stalwart of March Lions and an active freemason, and responsible now for noting the occasions which flag should be flying and when and ensuring, of course, it is lowered and tucked away to await another occasion.
