WISBECH St Mary Purple Under-16s Girls stunned favourites Norwich City by beating them 2-1 at the Central England Regional Final of the Tesco Cup.

Saints booked their place in the final after beating Cambridge City on penalties to win the Cambridgeshire County Cup. Despite only losing one match and conceding just three goals it wasn’t enough to see the side progress to the national finals at Derby’s Pride Park ground.

Luton Town won the event - held at Warwick University on May 8 - which was littered with academy sides from across eastern England. Saints’ manager Glenn Shales praised his side for their excellent achievement and also thanked Andy Thorpe of Fenland Hygiene for sponsoring training t-shirts for his side.
