PUPILS from Cambridgeshire went to Parliament in a bid to secure more funding for the county’s schools.
The group joined the Cambridgeshire Schools Forum - which is supported by NE Cambs MP Steve Barclay - for the visit to London.
They met MP Barclay and Sarah Healey, the Department for Education (DfE) Director of Funding during their visit to the House of Commons.
MP Barclay said: “Schools funding has been something which I have been working closely on and the visit has even further stressed the importance that Ministers make the right decision and equalise funding for Cambridgeshire children compared to those elsewhere.”
Cambridgeshire receives �4,644 per pupil - less Government cash per pupil than any other county in the eastern region. It is also ranked 143rd out of 151 local authorities for funding in the country.
Philip Hodgson, chair of the Cambridgeshire Schools Forum, said: “It is clearly unfair that Cambridgeshire receives so much less than other authorities. “It is the pupls themselves who lose out. I am delighted that our MPs have joined forces in taking the campaign to the highest level and I hope our schools will be given the funding they need and deserve.”
If the county’s students were funded at the national average of �5,082 per pupil it would mean Cambridgeshire schools would net almost �35million more.
