MANAGER Brett Whaley is facing a race against time to sign a goalkeeper on loan for Saturday’s FA Cup derby with Wisbech Town.

The March Town United boss was left devastated when Soham Town Rangers backed out of an agreement to loan the Hares their second choice shot-stopper Simon Allen last night.

Whaley has until noon tomorrow to sign an emergency ‘keeper to replace the suspended Lea Jordan.

The Hares boss said: “I sat watching the transfer deadline day on Sky Sports thinking it looked a nightmare.

“Now the clock’s ticking for me to sign a ‘keeper and I’ve got a day job too.

“I’m absolutely gutted because rather than working on who I’ll pick on Saturday I’ll now be ringing everybody to try and find a ‘keeper.”

Goals from Chris Lenton, Ricki Goodale and Stu Anderson (2) helped March beat Ipswich Wanderers 4-0 on Saturday.

However, last night’s 1-0 home defeat to Godmanchester Rovers ended the Hares unbeaten start to the campaign.

Whaley said: “Lea never had a save to make and we got caught by a sucker punch at the end but one defeat won’t get me down.”

The March boss also revealed that Luke Pepper (illness), Ash Brand (foot) and Kyle Nolan (ankle) were all “touch and go” to be involved in Saturday’s game.
