STEAM engines, live music, battle re-enactments and a flypast by a Second World War Dakota is just part of the line-up for the fifth Skylark Vintage, Country and Air Show predicted to be the best yet.

The show takes place this weekend at the Skylark Showground near Wimblington, with activities for all the family.

Showground chairman Paul Salter said: “It’s fun and mayhem all weekend. Now in its fifth year, it is set to be the best yet.”

Highlight of the weekend is a flypast from a Second World War Dakota tomorrow at 3pm. Manea Silver Band will play as the Dakota comes over. There will also be skydiving and microlites flying overhead.

In the show ring there will be gun dog demonstrations, a champion go-karts parade, historic bicycles and Viking and Crusader re-enactments by the Re-enacting Ancient Times Society.

The society is a small but expanding group which has members from March, Wisbech, Benwick, Ramsey and Alconbury. It is currently concentrating on the Crusades. It will also have a living history encampment at the show.

Adventurous children and adults can enter the show ring at 2pm tomorrow and Sunday and play havoc with the Skylark fire engine hoses - but Mr Salter warned people to take some spare dry clothes with you.

Throughout the weekend a vast collection of classic cars, stationary engines and vintage commercials, motorbikes, tractors and steam engines will be exhibited in a static display.

Children’s entertainment comes in the form of magic, juggling and story telling by Peter the Wizard.

A number of Fenland bands will also perform in the entertainments marquee. Numerous stallholders, including Breathe Easy Fenland, will also be present.

Fenland Has Talent winner, beatboxer Oliver Griffen, is also set to perform at the showcase event as he continues to amaze crowds with his stunning vocal talent.

Mr Salter said: “Apart from the fun, it is also a very serious fund raising weekend for the fantastic Macmillan Cancer Support and for Kisses 4 Kids, a charity for terminally ill children.”
