WHITTLESEY was brought to a standstill this morning after a crash involving an ambulance and a Royal Mail van caused chaos on Fenland’s roads.
The A47 was closed in both directions after the collision, which happened just after 6am near Guyhirn. Police established a diversion, with traffic tailbacks stretching for miles.
There were long delays in Whittlesey and Coates, where cars on the A605 at Long Gravel, pictured, ground to a halt.
Whittlesey Councillor Martin Curtis said on Twitter: “Absolute chaos through Whittlesey this morning.”
Sources at the scene said the ambulance - which had been carrying a patient - had been pulling out of Gull Road when the collision happened.
