A TURF-CUTTING ceremony will be held in Chatteris next week to mark the start of building work at the town’s new 1.1m leisure centre.

Chatteris Leisure Suite - which will be built at Cromwell Community College - will consist of a 50-station gym and dance studio, with an adjoining reception area and changing rooms.

The centre is part of a wider programme to improve leisure facilities in Chatteris and follows the completion of an all-weather pitch and sports pavilion at the college which opened last autumn.

Representatives from the county council, district council, and Chatteris Town Council are expected to attend Thursday’s ceremony, together with staff from Kier Construction, the main contractors.

The district council has provided 600,000 and the town council 500,000 for the project - which is set to open this autumn.
